The Influence of Social Stigma on Delinquency among Out-of-School Adolescents: Focusing on the Moderated Mediation Effect of Out-of-School Duration Through Impulsivity
Lee Rae-Hyuck

Abstract
This study aimed to examine the influence of social stigma on delinquency among out-of-school adolescents, with particular attention to investigating the moderated mediation effect of out-of-school duration through impulsivity. In order to analyze research questions, this study used a sample of 453 out-of-school adolescents from the Panel Study of School Dropouts conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute and utilized Model 4 for the mediation analysis and Model 7 for the moderated mediation analysis from the PROCESS Macro method for SPSS. The results of analyzing the model set up in this study are as follows. First, when out-of-school adolescents¡¯ social stigma increased one level, their likelihood of delinquency increased about 3.6 times. Second, out-of-school adolescents¡¯ impulsivity partially mediated the influence of social stigma on delinquency. Third, out-of-school adolescents¡¯ out-of-school duration moderated the mediation effect of social stigma on delinquency through impulsivity. Based on the findings, this study discussed social work implications for improving social awareness on out-of-school adolescents, providing a program to address social stigma and impulsivity, and supporting them tailored to out-of-school duration.
